“How many days until the next holiday?” sounds like the same question everywhere, but the honest answer depends entirely on where you are. Our new Next Holiday Countdown is built around that — not a single widget translated four times, but four real holiday calendars.
- Eleven US federal holidays — from New Year’s Day through Christmas, including “nth weekday” holidays like Thanksgiving (the fourth Thursday of November) and Memorial Day (the last Monday of May), computed with the standard nth-weekday-of-month arithmetic.
- Genuinely localized, not translated. The Spanish edition covers Spain’s ten national holidays, including a movable Viernes Santo; the Italian edition covers Italy’s eleven, including a movable Pasquetta — both computed from Western Easter with the standard Meeus/Jones/Butcher algorithm.
- A real calendrical difference, done right. The Greek edition covers Greece’s thirteen official holidays, five of them set relative to Orthodox Easter — which Orthodox churches still reckon on the Julian calendar, not the Gregorian one Western churches use. This tool computes it properly: the Julian-calendar Meeus algorithm, then the 13-day Julian-to-Gregorian offset, live, for any year. Most years Orthodox Easter falls one to five weeks after Western Easter (in 2027 it’s five full weeks apart); some years, like 2025 and 2028, the two coincide. Either way, it’s a real date, recalculated properly — not a guess.
- Always up to date. Every edition rolls forward into next year automatically once this year’s holidays are behind you, and updates itself if you leave the tab open past midnight.
- Private by default. Every calculation runs in your own browser, from your device’s own clock — nothing is sent to a server.
